activeNewham is running wellbeing sessions throughout Autumn 2018

The programme is committed to the delivery of evidence based approaches which promotes resilience and confidence in 10-16 year olds.  The 18 month programme which is funded by the Big Lottery has been nominated for StreetGames Mental Health and Wellbeing award as well as receiving recognition from the Deputy Mayor for Social integration, Mathew Ryder, for provision towards a better community.

The current Autumn programme see’s activeNewham working with New partners from across London to provide extra activities throughout the 8 Boroughs of Newham. From NGB’s such as UK Wallball, to local organisations such as Mbox the activities are designed to provide sports and physical activities which build resilience and improve wellbeing in young people who attend school or live within the borough.

Activities are delivered on a weekly basis by specialist providers who undergo Mental Health First Aid training as a prerequisite to them delivering activities for the HeadStart project, with each programme supported by a trained youth worker who provides additional support to young people in the form of 1:1’s and positive reinforcement through active engagement.

Your Choice

Are you aged 10 – 16? Attend a school within Newham or live in the Borough? activeNewham would like your thoughts on what sport you would like to be available in the April – July period. Examples could include Archery, Badminton, Boccia, Dodgeball, Frisbee, Hockey, Tag Rugby, Slyding and many more. This could be in any of the local parks, the Olympic park, or maybe one of the activeNewham leisure centres in the area.

The choice is up to the young people of Newham! To register your choice please send an email to craig.hughes@activeNewham.org.uk, or message to 07741 293510, including your Name, Age, and School, along with what sport you would like to try and where you would like it to take place. Then in March we will announce the chosen sport and area. Remember… It will be completely free to attend!
