LATEST NEWS! Come and say goodbye to Blaze on Sunday 1st March
Blaze, the Shire horse, much loved resident at Newham City Farm for the past 14 years, is moving on to pastures new. We will be saying goodbye to him at the Farm on Sunday 1st March between 12.00pm - 1.00pm.
After many wonderful years on the farm the time has come for Blaze to spend many more happy years at a more suitable location. Blaze is moving to Sacrewell, the Shire horse centre in Peterborough, on 2nd March. This is a Shire horse and visitor centre so you can still go and see Blaze in future as well as his new friends!
If you want to say a fond farewell to Blaze and wish him good luck in his new home, please come along on Sunday and join us in saying goodbye. Blaze will be available to ‘Meet and Greet’ and staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
We look forward to seeing you on this very special day , when we can all share our stories about Blaze and give him a great send-off to his new home.
• Details of Blaze's new home can be found here: www.sacrewell.org.uk
Newham City Farm is one of London's largest and longest established city farms. The farm opened in 1977 and is home to a large collection of farmyard favourites such as cows, horses and sheep - alongside some less familiar animals such as alpacas, birds of prey and turkeys.
There are also many smaller animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets.
The farm is all about providing the local community with a great facility - especially for local children to enjoy. This is why we are so popular with local schools who can arrange guided tours with a member of the farm staff. Throughout the year there are exciting activities on the farm for children to take part in and there are regular workshops and clubs that they can join. By becoming a young volunteer they can also help us to look after the animals and become part of the team! The Farm is the prefect venue for a birthday party as well!
The farm's Care Farming provides a therapeutic programme of support that uses animal care and gardening to benefit adults with a variety of learning needs, health conditions, and disabilities
We also run a very popular adult volunteering programme which includes a Community Gardening programme throughout the year.
Visiting the farm
Newham City Farm is open all year round, every day except Mondays. It is free to visit although we do encourage a minimum donation of £1 per child and £2 per adult.
The farm is open on bank holidays and runs special events throughout the year so make sure you check our events calendar.
There is a lot to see at the farm. Alongside our animals there is an orchard, children’s play area, a playbarn and picnic benches. We sell our produce too - you can often buy freshly laid eggs, honey from our bees and even manure!
Plan your visit to Newham City Farm to make sure you don’t miss a thing when you get here. Download our site map to see which animals you want to visit first and make the most of our children’s play areas.
Activities on the farm
There is always a lot going on at the farm and there are many ways for you to get involved.
The farm runs an adult volunteer scheme for anyone with an interest in animals and a community garden volunteer scheme for people interested in or gardening. All volunteers can help out on the site and at our events. There is also a young volunteer scheme for 12 - 17 year olds over the weekends and school holidays.
We hold very popular clubs throughout the week where young people can find out about day-to-day life on the farm and learn some new skills and get some practical experience of farm life!
Support the farm
There are many ways to support the work that the farm does in the local community so that we can continually improve the facilities for the animals and our visitors. Follow this LINK to find out how you can make a valuable contribution to the farm by becoming a Friend of Newham City Farm, by sponsoring an animal or perhaps
by organising a volunteering day on the farm with your work colleagues.
The farm works closely with local schools to help children to learn about all aspects of wildlife, agriculture and plant life. From a self-guided tour to curriculum-specific workshops, the farm offers a fantastic resource for Outdoor Learning. Our workshops are very popular and give children hands-on experience of every aspect of farm life in a practical and fun setting.
Schools and community groups are always welcome to visit the farm - for which we will charge a minimal amount.
