active Newham believes that athletics is one of the easiest way to enjoy sport, as well as being one of the most rewarding. It is also a great way of improving your fitness, meeting new people and getting involved in competitions. This is why we are doing so much to support everyone, of every age and ability, who wants to run, jump or throw.
Throughout the year there is a wide range of events and activities to take part in and our qualified coaches are always on hand to help you to develop your skills and improve your performance. Most of all, athletics is a fun way of getting active and staying healthy.
The parkrun is a weekly timed 5K run which is held every Saturday morning at 9am. It is free to attend and is open to everyone aged 11 and over. To take part you will need to register (once) in advance. Full details for the Beckton parkrun are available

There are two weekly instructor led sessions taking place in Newham, one at New Beckton Park and one at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Both of these Great Run Local sessions offer free 2k or 5k runs every Sunday at 9.30am.

Newham and Essex Beagles Athletics Club
is one of the most successful clubs in the country, with an impressive list of members including Olympic gold medallists Mo Farah and Christine Ohuruogu.
The Beagles hold club sessions three times a week for anyone aged 8 years and over who is interested in athletics. These are held on Monday and Wednesdays from 6pm-9pm and on Sundays from 10am-1pm.
This is a friendly, all-level running club based in Newham. If you are a keen runner, have been thinking about improving your fitness, or even if you are a total beginner this would be an ideal club for you. The club currently meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and on Sundays at 8am and 9am at Newham Leisure Centre, 281 Prince Regent Lane, Plaistow, London, E13 8SD
