Badminton
While East Ham Leisure Centre's badminton courts remain out of use, and to ensure more people are able to use the badminton facilities at Newham Leisure Centre, we are temporarily reducing the number of sessions bookable to 2 sessions per day. The change will allow more availability for members to book the session they want. Changes outlined above will take effect on 13 December. Thank you for your cooperation during this time.

PoolPods
Following on from the success at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Poolpods are now available in Newham. activeNewham have been lucky enough to received funding to create inclusive swimming environments for people with long-term health conditions, disabilities and rehabilitation needs. The London Marathon Charitable Trust has provided a £750,000 grant to allow Swim England and its partners to enhance the swimming provisions across 20 community pools across the UK. Poolpods are available to use at East Ham and Newham Leisure Centres. Poolpods offer a variety of benefits, ensuring independent and dignified access for activeNewham customers with pool-side struggles or disability restrictions when entering and exiting the pool by the traditional method. Poolpods are operated by a wristband, which is used to activate the pod on pool-side arrival, and while in the pool. This removes the need to require staff/carer assistance. Fitted with an automatic safety door and seat belt, this protects, reassures and makes the user feel comfortable they are safe from any possible falling danger while in the pod. If customers have any concerns or require further pool-side assistance to operate pool pod, there will be an elected member of staff near-by to help and support them with their needs. Newham Swim Safely
active
Newham operates A “Swim Safely” Procedures which is a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at ensuring safe use of swimming pools.
Swim Safely Admission Rules:
Under 8’s must be accompanied by a competent adult swimmer (over 16yrs old and recommended to be able to swim at least 25 meters).
No more than two under 8’s or weak/non swimmers to each competent adult swimmer.
The competent adult swimmer must actively supervise the under 8’s
Weak/non swimmers, under 8’s, must be actively supervised in the water, all non-swimmers must remain in shallow water, and are not permitted past the relevant mark on poolside. This includes anyone wearing armbands or using other swimming aids, as well as adults who are weak or non-swimmers.
Young people aged between 9 – 16 years must display they are able to competently swim 25 meters before they are allowed to swim outside the shallow water area.
Young people who have demonstrated they are able to swim 25 meters must wear the wristband given to them at all times.
It is strongly recommended that under 8’s and all non-swimmers wear armbands and /or another appropriate type of buoyancy aid.
